Dear Church,
As mentioned during this past Sunday’s service, Don Matthews is now at home! God is good! Patty is his primary caregiver as he continues to recover. It is exhausting for her and we would like to lighten her load just a little bit by helping to put home cooked meals on their table. A Meal Train has been created to help them. A Meal Train is where friends can sign up to deliver a home cooked meal on a schedule that has already been set up. The link for the Meal Train site is at the bottom of this email. Using this site also helps volunteers to see what others are providing so that we have a variety of meals.
The link for the Meal Train site is at the bottom of the email. We want (need?) you to read all of this before signing up. So there are a couple of items of which we would like you to be aware so that you can prepare a meal that fits within Don’s dietary requirements. Don is on a low sodium and low potassium diet and you’ll see the list of low potassium foods that fits below. For sodium, please try to reduce the amount of sodium that your recipe calls for by half.
To sign up to deliver a meal, the Meal Train website asks you to register for an account. It is completely safe to do so. The main reason is to capture your email address so that you can receive updates and emails confirming your participation and receive a reminder email the day before you have scheduled yourself to provide a meal. You can uncheck the box asking if you want to receive promotion/marketing emails from them and this will prevent you from being “spammed”. You will pick a date and enter in the meal you are bringing. As organizer of this Meal Train, Lyn will also get an email notifying her that someone has signed up. Don and Patty also get an email alerting them as well.
Below is a list of the “good” and “bad” foods. It is also a good idea to call Patty to confirm that the ingredients of your meal will be in compliance with Don’s dietary requirements. Patty’s mobile number is 973-626-6625. You can also confirm the best time to deliver your meal when you speak with her.
Lyn has set this up for every other day for the month of July. As a suggestion, you might consider making your meal large enough to provide Patty and Don with leftovers. Additionally, delivering your meal in disposable containers would be an added blessing. Patty won’t need to wash dishes or worry about returning them to the owners.
If you have any questions or difficulties using the Meal Train site, please contact Lyn at 973-715-3173. She can talk you through and assist you.
