RED BIRD SUMMER MISSION TRIP INFO!

Hi UMC Wayne! Below is some important and timely information about the Red Bird Mission Summer Mission Trip!
Greetings Folks,
It’s getting close to the time when we need to communicate with Red Bird about this summer’s Mission Trip which will be from *July 13-19, 2024*. As you have been to Red Bird in the past couple of years, we are sending you this information. Please feel free to forward it to others who might be interested. As has been our custom, we will leave Saturday morning and gather in the early evening in southern Virginia where we will spend the night and then travel on to Kentucky the next day. In case you lost the original email, the link for individual registrations via Google Forms is at this link.
The Registration Link is: docs.google.com/forms/d/1q8zTcJnnQNvm7JpV_6LpdnF_svfr2NBbSdQRUICRQPI/edit
*We need to hear from you by March 10th* so we can do the needed paperwork. The *cost for this year’s trip is $525 per person* that is paid in two parts ($500 for each participant’s room, board plus building materials, and $25.00 for other trip expenses like T-Shirts, supplies). *$250.00 will be due no later than March 20th. The balance of $275 will be due on June 15th* so that we can make the payments to Red Bird at the appropriate times. Travel costs are determined by each individual group and paid by the church or travel group. Once we have gathered registration information from participants and identified group leaders from each church, we will forward to you a “bill” that will outline the total payments required for your group and who to send it to. If you would like to go but do not have an identified church group, just let us know and we will work with you to connect with others.
All participants need to understand:
1. That everyone is expected to live out and practice the highest values of our faith – that we are servants to each other and everyone we meet for the whole week.
2. There will be times that the participation of every member of the group is expected – devotions and small groups, meals, lights out time in the evening, and other important group gatherings during the week. There will also be times and events in the calendar of the week where participants will have free time and a choice of activities at the work camp itself.
3. As this is an intergenerational mission trip, a part of our covenant is to make this a safe environment for all people but especially our youth. Each person above age 18 will need to have current Safe Sanctuary training and background checks consistent with the standards set by the annual conference (both GNJ and EPA).
Each church group will need to identify one person who will be that group’s coordinator. This way, we can efficiently bring together people from various locations and work on issues such as transportation. Group leaders will be responsible for
1. Making sure each participant has completed a Medical Form with Insurance ID information,
2. Collecting money and forwarding payments for your group,
3. Verifying that each participant over 18 has current Safe Sanctuary training and background checks. If you need help in doing this process, please contact us and we’ll assist you in getting that set up. Background checks for adults should be kept on file at the local church.
4. Monitoring their group member’s participation throughout the week and dealing with any concerns or issues that come up with your participants.
As we don’t have email addresses for everyone who has attended in the past, please forward this email to people you know who might be interested in attending this summer. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your hearts that are so geared to serve Christ in the hills of Eastern Kentucky through the Red Bird Mission.
In Christ,
Steve Bechtold Gabrielle Corbett Connie Squire
